Tribal Historic Preservation Office

The incumbent in this position performs project based ethnographic studies for the Seminole Tribe of Florida. The individual conducts background research, ethnographic literature reviews, drafts appropriate interview scripts, and provides technical expertise in ethnographic theory. The incumbent leads in the production of a final ethnographic study of the Southern Florida Region, which will include synthesizing research and oral history interviews into a detailed project report; which will divulge the Tribe’s history from the perspective of the Seminole Tribe. Master’s Degree in ethnography, anthropology, or other humanities research or related discipline is required. A minimum of one (3) years of experience in the practice of ethnography is required. Prior relevant experience in the study of Native American history but not limited to oral history, research design, archaeology, or history is preferred. Prior experience working for a tribal government on a Native American Reservation is preferred. Demonstrated interest in Native American studies is required. Demonstrate proficiency in current technologies, including desktop publishing, spreadsheets, and database management is required. Possession of a valid Florida Driver’s License is required. Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrate excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to communicate in Mikasuki or Creek is desired. Ability to travel across the South Florida region and work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends and holidays.
