Dedication of
The Miccosukee's New Gymnasium

Harry Billie, Recreation Director emceed the activities. The Miami Heat Dancers were on-hand to entertain the crowd.

The Miccosukee Tribe held their dedication ceremony for their completion of their brand new gymnasium on June 17, at 10:00. The dedication was held at Tamiami Trail beside the old gymnasium. Harry Billie, the Director of Recreation got started with an welcome introduction to everyone. Chairman Billy Cypress gave inspirational statement to the tribal members.

Mr. Billie gave special recognition to F.I.U. coach Shakey Rodriquez as an honored guest to the grand opening. Mr. Billie gave special thanks to Dan Vaga, Morning Star, Rosetta, Shirley F. Cypress, Virginia, Mike Salem, Elana Grammar for the hard work they put into the dedication ceremony.

Mr. Billie handed out special awards to honored members of the Miccosukee Tribe. A Citizenship Awards went to Deana Osceola daughter of Dorothy & Dan Osceola for her outstanding student and athlete. Special award was given to John Kyle Osceola son of John & Judy Osceola who has made a great deal of accomplishment at Everglades High School. He is a great basketball player, who has scored 53 pts at a basketball game, had triple of the week, chosen prep player twice and has 3.0 grade average, congratulation to Deana and John for outstanding accomplishments.

Mr. Billie had more awards to distribute, these awards was given for Citizenship of Honor for Tradition, Heritage and also great athletes. Pete Osceola, Roy Cypress Jr., Dwight Cypress were all recognized for outstanding athletes and basketball players.

The brand new gymnasium was ready to be observed. Tribal member were very proud of the completion of their new gym and were ready to play ball. Special guest for the ceremony were the Miami Heat Dancers.

The Miccosukee Tribe invited the Miami Dolphins for an exhibition game to break in the new gymnasium, the Dolphins won the game 98 to 95.
