By Adelsa Williams HOLLYWOOD — Heavy smoke appeared in the sky above the soon-to-be-completed Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino after fire broke out on Monday Feb. 23. The hotel and casino is scheduled for completion for late-April or early-May 2004. The City of Hollywood’s Fire Rescue Department responded to the call in conjunction with the Dania Beach Fire Department. City of Hollywood Fire Prevention Officer, Matt Phillips, reported that a fiberglass slide caught on fire. The slide empties into the pool from a simulated rock mountain with waterfalls. “The structure of the hotel was not affected in any way,” said Phillips. The fire took place outdoors by the pool area, which is located in the west side of the hotel. During the investigation Phillips met with Gaming Chief Executive Officer, Jim Allen, and Armando Negrin of the Seminole Emergency Medical Services Department. Interviews will be scheduled with construction workers during the investigation to determine what caused the fire. At the time of press, there were no estimated damages or reported injuries.
