BIG CYPRESS — There was hardly a dry eye in the packed Ahfachkee School lunch room on Dec. 14, 2006. On this special day astonished representatives from Ronald McDonald House Charities Southwest Florida stepped forward to accept a check for $7,553.48. BRIGHTON — Never again will rodeo officials have to hang out at the dusty ole’ offices at the Fred Smith Rodeo Arena. A brand new office has been built that has a large covered porch to accommodate quite a few cowboys and cowgirls who drop by. (continue...)
BIG CYPRESS — The holiday spirit was on full display on Dec. 21, 2006 as local community families and Tribal departments participated in the first annual super-sized Christmas card contest.
There were 14 entries–five family and nine departmental. They used four-foot-by-eight-foot sheets of plywood provided by the Big Cypress Recreation department to create their cards. After completion, the giant Christmas cards lined Josie Billie Highway. (continue...)
BRIGHTON — The Tribal Council held a meeting in Brighton on Dec. l5, 2006. In addition to their regularly scheduled business, they took advantage of an opportunity to acknowledge one of the Tribe’s military veterans.
Asking Archie Johns to step forward, Brighton Council Representative Andrew Bowers spoke briefly about the Tribe’s pride in its veterans and their contribution to mankind. (continue...)
