Ivan Billie Wins Grid Scholarship


Ivan Billie became the first Seminole Tribal member to win a Division One football scholarship, recently, when the Choctaw Central (Miss.) Senior committed to Mississippi State University. A native of the Hollywood Reservation, Ivan is the son of Suzanne Billie, who works in the Tribal Clerk's office.

The 6-foot-3, 210-pound tight end/defensive end has been one of the top high school athletes in the Southeast the past two years. This season he was credited with 75 tackles, seven sacks and three fumble recoveries on defense and seven pass receptions for 160 yards and a touchdown on offense. He has a 35-inch vertical leap and runs the 40-yard dash in 4.5 seconds - significant to the scouts from the Southeastern Conference Bulldogs.

He currently is a member of the undefeated Choctaw Central basketball team and is averaging 21.6 points per game. Year, as a junior, Ivan shot for a 19.4 point average, leading the Warriors to a 28.6 record and a Class 2A state tournament berth.

Ivan has a 3.3 GPA and an ACT score of 22.
