The incumbent in this position is responsible for enforcing Tribal ordinances and state laws pertaining to animal control across the Seminole Tribe of Florida’s Communities. Patrols all reservations and responds to public animal control complaints. Investigates animal bites, as well as cruelty and abuse cases in a timely manner. Quarantines/confines suspected rabid animals in conformance with state/Tribal laws. Maintains records of all registered and vaccinated animals. Captures and transports carcasses of animals on private and public lands. Mediates problems and complaints amongst Community Members concerning pets. Provides necessary enforcement action to safeguard Tribal Members and the general public’s health and safety. Organizes and sponsors rabies clinics biannually on all STOF’s reservations. High school diploma or GED equivalent is required. A minimum of one (1) year of responsible animal control experience is required. Possession of an Animal Control Officer Certificate is preferred; or, the ability to obtain the Certificate within three (3) months after employment. Must demonstrate proficiency in MS Excel, MS Word, and Outlook. Must demonstrate excellent interpersonal and organizational skills. Must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills. The incumbent must be able to understand and adhere to all safety requirements in the operation and use of tools, equipment and chemicals. Must be able to read and understand operational manuals of animal control equipment. Manual dexterity as well as excellent levels of physical ability is needed to work in areas of limited access, on ladders, high places, and in outdoors conditions. Must possess a valid Florida Driver’s License and be able to travel to all Seminole Reservations. Must be able to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends and holidays.
